New Mercies

New Mercies
Change. I woke up today just as the sun was rising and went for my morning walk around our neighborhood. It’s the first day in September, and boy, did it feel like it. I checked the weather app on my phone and discovered the temperature was in the low 50’s! Soon, summer will end, kids will go back to school, leaves will change colors, and the air will be filled with the autumn scents of pumpkin spice, apple cider, and pies.

With each season comes change. We are all wired differently. Some of us love change. For some of us it causes anxiety. And for others, it just depends on where we are at in life. Sometimes change is welcomed. Other times we feel like we can’t handle another shift in our lives…or in anything, for that matter.

As I put one step in front of the other this morning, I was thinking about all of the changes in our lives and the changes I am sure are happening in your life too. It can be overwhelming. It can be unsettling. Or it can be exciting! Yet one thing will always remain the same. A truth the prophet Jeremiah realized in Lamentations 3:22-23 even when his world felt like it was crumbling under constant change. He says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his mercies never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

His mercies. What does it mean that they are new every morning? It means they never run out. They never tire. They never fade. Instead they are renewed and rise with the sun every day and every moment of our lives to shine God’s love into our lives. It means as things around us change, God’s mercies adapt with them. It means that whatever we need today, God in his mercy will meet that need. What mercies do you need from the Father today? Do you need strength and energy? Do you need hope or revelation? Do you need comfort and companionship? What you need today may be different from what you needed yesterday or what you will need tomorrow. But do not be dismayed. God has plenty of mercy. Enough for each day and each morning for the rest of eternity. God has prepared this day knowing exactly what mercies you needed because of his great love and faithfulness. You will not be consumed…you are loved!

DID YOU KNOW? …
If you shop at Amazon, you can direct Amazon to donate money to Eastside Church. Amazon’s SMILE program allows Amazon’s consumers to direct where Amazon sends their donations. A percentage of every purchase is then sent to the charity of your choice, at no cost to you.

Whenever you shop at Amazon, instead of going to Amazon.com, so go smile.amazon.com. There, in the upper left corner of the task bar, you can choose the charity that you want your portion of their donation to be sent to. Search for Eastside Church, and then make sure you select the Eastside Church in Fairport, NY (as there are many others by that name).

Though the percentage of a single purchase may be small, the cumulative effect of many purchases by many Eastsiders will add up to a generous financial increase that will then be used to help fund the various Christ-centered ministries at our church. And it is free money-Amazon is going to donate somewhere, why not to our vision to "love everyone and serve anyone"?
