God of Miracles
 
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”
(Hebrews 13:8)

“I can’t explain it. It’s gone.”

“What do you mean it’s gone?”

“It’s not there anymore. You’re cancer free!”

With tears in his eyes and a bright smile on his face, Pastor Rick (pastor of One Church in Akron, NY) shared his testimony with the rest of us–a room full of pastors. The room burst out in applause for what only Jesus Christ could do and for the conversation Rick had with his doctor who was incredibly amazed.

You see, several months ago they found a large tumor in Rick’s prostate. They were very concerned and were almost certain it had metastasized. They began talking about treatments and agreed to begin radiation. However, at a conference back in May, Rick received prayer for healing. He felt something in his body that he couldn’t explain…a strange sensation. When he went back for a consultation before the radiation treatments began, they couldn’t find any cancer to treat. It was gone! Rick was healed!  

Do miracles still happen? Does God still move in supernatural ways that we cannot explain from a natural or materialistic perspective? These are questions that came up in our “Chosen” Grow Group this past Tuesday evening that led to a great conversation. Does the same Jesus who healed the paralytic and the leper still heal us today?

Then less than 48 hours later, I heard this testimony that I knew I needed to share with you. God still performs miracles! Jesus still works in mysterious and unexplainable ways just like we see in “The Chosen.” And the Holy Spirit is still on the move!

At this point in my life, I have seen and heard of miracles so many times, I am almost no longer surprised when they happen. I am in AWE but not surprised. Do I understand how it all works? No. Do I know why Jesus seems to heal some immediately and visibly while healing others more gradually, later on, or seemingly not at all. I don’t. There is so much mystery here.

However, there are some things we can hold onto with hopeful expectation. Jesus is alive! He’s still working and touching his people! He is our Great Physician/Doctor. And he has never and will never change! “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever,” the author of Hebrews tells us. John the Apostle said that even greater things would happen among us than we see in the Gospel stories (John 14:12). And the whole Book of Acts is a letter proving that the same Jesus who was at work in the Gospels would continue to work in and through his New Testament Church by the power of his Holy Spirit.

So let’s reawaken to the God of miracles! Let’s expect to see Jesus show up in unexplainable ways! And let’s have a revival of anticipation in our hearts to see the supernatural pour out into our natural by the Holy Spirit! Jesus is alive! Amen?

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:21).
