Loving & Serving

Don’t Forget to Fall Back
It’s that time of the year again! Before you go to bed Saturday evening, remember to set your clocks back an hour. I know. It’s not very fun, is it? The bad news: it will get darker earlier in the day. The good news: we gain an extra hour of sleep Saturday night so we can come to church refreshed and renewed! Yay! Now, word around the campfire is that many are pushing to put an end to this century old practice of changing our clocks in spring and in autumn. In fact, 7 out of every 10 Americans are in favor of putting an end to this strange charade that began way back in 1918 to save oil and electricity. However, it seems that the jury is still out on this topic even though the Senate voted unanimously in favor of the Sunshine Protection Act back in March which would make daylight savings time permanent year-round. The bill is currently stalled in the House as far as I can tell. So, until they reach a verdict, I’ll plan to send you another reminder in the spring. By that time, we will most certainly be ready for later sunsets and warm weather, won’t we?

Volunteer Shout-out!
Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness” (Matthew 25:23 NIV).

We are so blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers at Eastside who serve faithfully and selflessly, aren’t we? This makes me so proud of our church! This week I want to highlight one of those awesome volunteers…Donna Ritchie. Donna does so much for our church family in ways that are seen and in many ways that may not be as visible. For instance, have you enjoyed the seasonal plants and flowers that welcome us every Sunday at our church entrances? Sometimes they are filled with geraniums or little pine trees in the winter. Other times, they are filled with cool and exotic looking plants that are a mystery to me. So I scan them with my plant app to discover what those neat creations of God are called. Currently, we are welcomed by beautiful mums that are still in bloom in the middle of fall which never ceases to amaze me. Any guesses on who consistently plants and cares for those…for us to enjoy? That’s right, it’s Donna! Donna serves on our audio/visual team as well, enhancing our worship experience from behind the scenes and making sure everything runs smoothly. In addition, Donna is also the Chapter President of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization that is 100% volunteer driven. They build and deliver beds to children in the Rochester community who may not have a bed to call their own. The smiles on those precious children’s faces say it all and tell the story of how much this organization means to our community. In fact, tonight, at Pearce Church in North Chili, from 6pm-8:30pm, Donna will be part of an interactive workshop on poverty and the effects it has on a child’s development. The workshop is called, “Not Enough…Conversations on Childhood Poverty.” If you get a chance, come out, learn more, and support our dear friend. And, if you would like to volunteer for a future SHP project, check out their webpage at https://shpbeds.org/chapter/ny-rochester/ We are grateful for you Donna! THANK YOU for all you do for Eastside Church, our community and the kingdom of God!

Adopt a Family
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by
bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ
” (Ephesians 1:5 NLT).

Our heart at Eastside is to be like Jesus by “Loving Everyone, and Serving Anyone.” As we love and serve, we are proclaiming the goodness of our Lord, Jesus Christ. This coming Sunday, our very own Allison Ryan is going to present to our church an exciting opportunity for Eastside to adopt a family for the Christmas Season! The family we are adopting is a family of nine, ranging in ages from a newborn to 60-years-old. It’s a very tangible way we can support a local family in our local community this season. I hope you are as thrilled about this opportunity to be a blessing as I am! If you are interested in participating and supporting this precious family, we have a Giving Tree already set up in the Welcome Center loaded with Christmas tags, labeled with items this dear family needs. Grab a tag or two or three, and return the gift wrapped/unwrapped and place it under the Giving Tree. Final collection of the gifts for the family will be Sunday, December 4th so that we have time to get them to the family. We ask that you connect the tag to the outside of your gift so we can keep track of the items returned. Let’s have fun and be a blessing! And would you join me in also adopting this family in your prayers so that they will know the presence and love of our wonderful Savior this holiday season?
